The other excuse for coming to Adelaide....

As you may already be aware I'm not really a city person, but I do love visiting Adelaide. It is a beautiful city, nice and compact and easy to get around, beautiful architecture, lovely parks surrounding the city, a fantastic market at which we have been buying all our food, and to top it all off we have some family who live here.

Our uncle Pete and cousin Holly and her young family live here so it has been great to be able to catch up with them.

Holly and the georgous little Ruby.

Nicole and Cooper holding little Harry. This is the first time we've got to meet Harry who is 3 months old. Check out that head of hair!

The gang enjoying a lovely lunch together. Ahh...Adelaide we love you.

Bowerbird Bazaar.....in Adelaide

Bowerbird Bazaar is an upmarket Art & Design Market in Adelaide at the Queens Theatre in the Playhouse Lane and it has been hopping! It is only the 2nd one ever, with the next one planned for October.

Look at this beautiful old industrial building..... and Chloe wearing a gorgeous pinny embelished with 'Ink and Spindle' fabrics.

The old Mookah sign.....our logo has now been updated.

Nicole's beautiful flower she felt she just had to make??

Colli being nice to a customer......

Some of our noisy animal friends..

And some of our Nature Range we sold out of today! Thanks so much to Amy and Carly from Nest Studio for dropping by. The denim and Elephant combo has been such a hit in the kiddies beanbags.

Adelaide Xmas Craft & Gift Fair

If you are a fellow market stallholder of any sort, have you ever come home from a market or exhibition with your costs being more than the money you took? If you have, you could probably share in my disappointment this week.

Last Thursday I headed off to Adelaide for the Xmas Craft & Gift Fair just a little excited about the days to come....if only I'd known what lay ahead! We were prepared, thought our stand had come up well, had prepared plenty of stock in preparation, but....

... it didn't seem to matter. Yeah there was quite a few people around, and yeah there was some quality product around, but there was also lots of cheap imported goods, rather than australian quality goods as i had been led to believe. By lunch the first day I was ready to burst into tears as I was sure that I was the only stallholder in the whole building who hadn't sold a thing. In fact, Nicole sold in one hour back in Melbourne, what we did in two full days!

I was having all those negative thoughts that you do, such as:
- am I kidding myself?
- is our product crap?
- am I the only one who thinks our product is 'nice'?
- should I just get a 'real' job?
- are they laughing at me?

But you know what? After taking less money than it cost us to attend the event, I decided the following things:
- It's about more than cash sales, it's about exposure and getting your product out there
- It's about having a go and not giving up on your dream
- There is good in every experience if you look for it
- It was a learning experience
- I had an opportunity to spend some quality time with my extended family in Adelaide
- Or ultimately, it just wasn't the right event for Mookah
The best thing that I found at the fair was my one and only purchase, my first ever pair of Fisherman's Pants, but hey that's a whole other post.
Special thanks to Mum for sharing my road trip, and keeping me company during those long tiring days, and also to those lovely customers and stallholders that I met. It's nice to be home.
You can mark my words though Adelaide, "I'll be back!"

Beautiful colours.....

Apparently it has been 10 days since I did a post, oh the shame! All I can say is that it has been super busy around here, with Nicole's partner's family out from the UK for 3 weeks, the ongoing extensions and renovations at Nicole & Darrel's house, the ridiculous amount of markets we have before xmas and over January to prepare for and the fact that I am off to Adelaide on Thursday for 5 days for an exhibition and to visit some relatives!

Have a look at these beautiful orchids that Nicole and Darrel recieved as a departing thank you gift from Darrel's family. Aren't the colours just stunning?

Oh and speaking of colours, Nicole has had a colour change from her traditional blonde highlights to......err.....something......rather red!

And this is the latest on the exterior renovations going on next to the Mookah Studio. Inside the new kitchen is installed, but waiting on the plastering to be done ready for painting.

Ahh....beautiful Dulux 'Woodland Grey', a colour I also have used on part of the exterior of my house. Blends in beautifully with the environment.
