My Creative Space...

I am joining in with My Creative Space over at Kyootoo. Today is a very special day. Today I really feel like I have done something 'creative', not just making stuff. I have been inspired over the last month or so by those fellow bloggers who have been showing their 'Jumper Refashioning', and by their creative abilities to turn large, predominantly boring, unattractive wool jumpers into unique funky clothing.

In particular I need to thank Nicki over at My Black Cardigan for all her comments, advice, support and instructions! What I started with was a $4 very large mens navy blue 100% wool jumper from the local op shop.

Step 1 was to 'felt' my jumper by putting it through a hot wash 3 times. It had shrunk a bit after wash 2 but I thought it wasn't quite there, so gave it a third. Then I thought uh-oh. Look how small it is! Next I cut off the sleeves, made the arm holes larger, and trimmed the front half of the neckline off.

The big brave cut straight down the front and I felt like Iwas on a roll.

Next I used an off cut bit to sew a tab across the front 2 pieces with some funky wooden buttons.

And of course you can see that I hacked some length off the front and back and then resewed some of the sleeve bits back onto the bottom at odd angles, with the extra bits providing me with some 'tabs' that I used to attach front to back with buttons, rather than hacking it off as planned.

And voila! My first ever 'Refashioned Felted Jumper' was complete. What do you think? I love it and have already started the next one. Not bad for a $4 jumper/vest. I think I'm hooked.

  8. Wow Leisa. You have done a fabulous job. Your top is amazing. It's so hard to believe that the gorgeous thing you ended up with was once that big, boxy jumper. Did you love the freedom of just cutting! And how easy is it to get hooked. Well done.

The more you do, the easier they will obviously become to do... I suspect we'll be seeing these for sale on your Etsy site before too long? *heehee*
