Life is a Carnival...

Life is a carnival....
Only very recently our small family was scattered over theplace, but in a short space of time we as sisters (& family) have had a seachange to Inverloch and our parents have finally moved into their brand new dream home in town as well. After moving out of the family home 15-20 years ago, and going our separate ways, we are all within 7klm’s of each other again. So where is this going you ask?
This journey we are currently on at Mookah is reflected in one of our new fabric additions, we have aptly named ‘Carnival’. We actually bought it a little while ago and hadn’t done anything with it until last week when a customer (Christine) went out of her way to visit us at Mornington market because she wanted to place a special order in this fabric. She has ordered a Pod and 2 matching throw cushions and will drop by to pick it up this Sunday at the Lardner Park Craft Market.

What do you think? Be honest, all comments appreciated. I can tell you now that Cooper thinks it is ‘FANTASTIC’! As soon as he see’s it his eyes just light up.

Progress

Well I know I've been a bit slack with my posts, but hey, a girl can't do everything! We have been busy with all that business organisation stuff, such as registering business name, applying for ABN and tax file no, organising bank accounts and merchant facilities, etc, etc.

In between we have also found some productive creative time and have used some of our new fabrics to add to our home deco range. Below is a couple of them, shown made into pods, but they also have matching throw cushions and fabric wall hangings to match.

Today I have trecked to Melbourne once again and bought a brand new marquee for our markets, which will be used for the first time on Sunday at Mornington market. Hope to see you there Mrs Prune....

Another project has been some new suspended shelves for displaying product in the marquee, which has been mostly made out of recycled materials or bits and bobs we had around the place. With some help from D2, girl power was on the tools this week. Here's some progress shots of them from this week.

Apart from all of this, not much except for a bit of monkey crutching....

Oh, and speaking of monkey crutching, it was great to catch up last Sunday Pooh Bear.

First Market Wrap Up

Our very first market at Balnarring.......well it wasn't exactly great, but we did sell some stuff, we met some great people, got lots of ideas and very positive feedback, and it feels great to have the first one out of the way!

After leaving behind schedule and having too much wine the night before we arrived at 7.00am which was our target time and were fully set up by 7.55am. This is a photo of me doing my lunges and stretches in preparation for what may lay ahead.

As it turned out, I probably shouldn't have bothered. The market was very quiet compared to normal according to the locals because the Hastings annual festival was on and it was 'jumping'. Thanks to those friends that made the effort to come say g'day and support us, it was very much appreciated. As per a special request at the market we have created a red/white modern pod, which is shown below, and also has matching throw cushions and wall hanging.

We were also asked about pods that hadn't been filled with beans to fit in hand luggage etc, so we have now created pods that have zips in them which can be filled later on. This also has the added benefit for us of allowing us to sell them online, watch this space for that too.

Onwards and upwards!

New additions to the range

Well after a full week supposedly working in the studio, I've got to say we haven't quite produced as much as what we thought we might. 'Why', I hear you ask. Well there is probably a range of reasons, including the fact that there is one very demanding 14 month old that is constantly seeking attention, we've hit a few brick walls along the way and had to visit some experts for advice, I spent a day out sourcing materials, and there seems to be a never ending amount of research, follow up and things to organise or put in place. But hey, that's all supposed to be part of the fun/challenge isn't it? We did take time out to pose for a shot in the new studio though.

This week we tried to concentrate on some items that are part of our home decorating range, which include co-ordinating fabric wall hangings, throw cushions and what we have aptly named 'Mookah Pods'. They do look a little like seed pods or some such, but to the average person, they are what you might call a foot seat, poof, or an ottoman. These ones are made of one of our favourite fabrics.
And following is a selection of some of the items that were produced this week. Gotta love those pods! A kids version is on the way too...
Our first ever craft market is booked for next Saturday (how scary - what if we don't sell anything?) and there is so much still to organise, but tomorrow we are thinking about taking a day off. What do you think?
